Job Summary
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Safety Manager, who will be responsible for overseeing the safety aspects of all flight operations. Your primary role will be to ensure that every flight complies with regulatory standards and company policies while maintaining the highest level of safety for passengers, crew, and equipment. You will play a critical part in continuous improvement initiatives, safety training, audits, and risk assessments. This role is vital to maintaining our company’s reputation for excellence and safety in one of the world’s most breathtaking environments. This role reports to the COO.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Management: Develop, implement, and oversee the company’s safety management system (SMS) for flight operations, ensuring compliance with national and international aviation standards.
Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments for all aspects of flight operations, including weather conditions, equipment functionality, and crew readiness.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with TCAA (Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority) regulations, international safety standards, and company policies across all flight operations.
Audits & Inspections: Plan and conduct regular internal audits and safety inspections of flight operations, ground support activities, and equipment. Prepare for external audits and inspections as necessary.
Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into any incidents or safety breaches, identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Training & Development: Develop and deliver safety training programs for flight crews and ground personnel. Ensure that all staff are knowledgeable about safety procedures and quality standards.
Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans, ensuring all staff are trained and ready to respond to potential emergencies
Data Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor and analyse safety data, maintaining accurate records and preparing regular safety and quality reports for senior management.
Collaboration with Departments: Work closely with flight operations, maintenance, and ground crew teams to promote a culture of safety and quality across all departments.
Mandatory Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in safety management or quality assurance within the aviation or adventure tourism industry (hot air ballooning experience preferred).
Safety Certification: Relevant safety management qualifications or certifications (e.g., Safety Management System (SMS), Crew Resource Management (CRM)
Leadership: Proven ability to lead safety initiatives and manage safety protocols across teams.
Attention to Detail: Highly detail-oriented, ensuring every aspect of operations adheres to the highest safety and quality standards.
Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying potential risks and developing effective solutions for safety improvements.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear safety training and articulate safety protocols.
Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis and reporting to monitor safety performance and identify areas for improvement.
Physical Fitness: Comfortable working in a dynamic, outdoor environment that may involve physically demanding tasks.
