Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Head of Accounting to oversee the financial management of the company, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance in all accounting operations. Stationed in Arusha, this talent will implement financial best practices, streamline processes, and provide insightful analysis to support decision-making as the business grows. This role will be instrumental in shaping the financial future of the company, managing budgets, financial forecasting, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.The Head of Accounting will directly report to the CEO.

 

Professional Requirements

1. Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.

  • Provide financial insight and recommendations on new business opportunities, partnerships, and potential expansions.

  • Have a deep understanding of the Tanzanian and international regulatory environment in the tourism sector. 

  • Maintain strict financial controls and governance to safeguard company assets and ensure transparency.

2. Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

  • Lead the preparation of tax returns, liaising with external auditors and tax consultants to ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations.

  • Ensure full compliance with Tanzanian tax obligations, including VAT, income tax, and PAYE, and adherence to accounting standards, 

  • Streamline and automate financial processes to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Conduct regular audits and internal control assessments to mitigate financial risks.

3. Payroll & Taxation 

  • Prepare statutory payroll returns for submission to Revenue.

  • Oversee processing of monthly VAT returns and monitor refunds.

4. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

  • Work closely with operations, marketing, and other departments to provide financial guidance and support cross-functional initiatives.

  • Ensure clear communication and collaboration between the accounting team and other business units.

5. Risk Management

  • Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the company's financial health and resilience.

  • Ensure compliance with financial laws and regulations, including tourism industry-specific guidelines, where applicable.

 

Mandatory Skills and Qualifications

  • The candidate must have a degree in accounting, finance or business (postgraduate degree is a plus). 

  • A professional certification in Accounting (ACCA, CIMA or CPA).

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting principles and tax regulations.

  • Experience in the tourism, hospitality, or aviation industry will be a plus.

  • Proven ability to manage full-cycle accounting processes, financial forecasting, and budgeting.
